Minecraft Bedrock VR → How to launch with Oculus Quest/2
Intro
So at my house we have become a Minecraft family, thanks to my three children. I did a little bit of research and saw that Minecraft for Windows has the ability to play the game in VR. However they say it only works for the rift or the rift S which they no longer make.
In actuality, you are able to play the game with an Oculus Quest or Quest 2. However ,finding out how to do so isn’t easy, which is why I wrote this post.
Below is a quick step-by-step procedure on how to play Minecraft bedrock edition in your oculus quest
Steps to Success
- You will need to link your oculus quest with your oculus VR desktop app and utilize the oculus air link or a USB 3.0 link cable.
- Once you have your oculus quest headset linked with your desktop computer, you will want to open the Minecraft app differently than you usually do on your desktop.
- The easiest way, is to open up a windows explorer window, and in the file location input area (towards the top of the window) you put in the following file protocol and press Enter
minecraft://Mode/?OpenXR=true
4. This is a lot like how intents work on android systems, where it sees the protocol and opens the appropriate app. In the above command, it is telling Minecraft to open itself but to also open XR which I believe is the VR engine built into Minecraft.
5. Your oculus should start the Minecraft VR application and you should be able to see the game inside your headset.
Hope this works for you as it worked for me, and it was pretty fun!
Happy Mining!
